Urdu Text to Speech
Urdu Text to Speech
Type or paste Urdu text and hear it spoken aloud by your device’s own voice.
Important — please read: The voice comes from your device, not from this website. If your device has no Urdu voice, Urdu text will sound wrong or will not play properly. Check the voice list below: if no voice with “ur” (Urdu) appears, your device cannot speak Urdu with this tool. Speech is live only — there is no MP3 download.
Honest notes: This tool uses your browser’s built-in speech feature (Web Speech API) — no audio is created on a server and no file is offered for download. Long passages may stop early on some browsers; split long text into short parts. Your text is never uploaded or saved by this site (your device’s speech engine processes it locally or as per your browser’s own behaviour).
Urdu Text to Speech is a free, browser-based tool that reads Urdu text aloud using the voice already on your device. There is nothing to install and no account to create: type or paste your text at the top of the page, choose a voice, and press Play. It is useful for listening practice, checking pronunciation, and hearing short passages read back when reading on screen is difficult.
Before you press Play, please read the red warning in the tool itself. This site does not supply the voice or create an audio file. Your device does the speaking, so the result depends entirely on the voices your device and browser already offer.

How to Use Urdu Text to Speech
- Type or paste your Urdu text into the box at the top of the page. A short example sentence is already there, so you can press Play straight away to test it.
- Look at the Voice list. If an Urdu voice is shown, choose it first. The tool puts Urdu voices at the top of the list when your device has any.
- Set the speed with the slider, from 0.5x to 1.5x. Start at 1.0x, then slow down if you are learning, or speed up for a quick listen.
- Press Play to hear the text. Use Pause / Resume if you need a break, Stop to end the reading, and Clear to empty the box and start again.
If you do not have Urdu text ready, prepare it first with the Online Urdu Keyboard, or turn Roman Urdu into Urdu script with the Roman Urdu to Urdu Converter. To check the length of a passage before you play it, use the Urdu Word Counter.
The Device-Voice Limit, Explained
This tool uses the Web Speech API in your browser. That means the browser asks your device for a voice, and the device supplies whatever voices it has installed. This website cannot add an Urdu voice to a device that does not have one, and it cannot improve a voice that sounds wrong.
Android phones and Windows PCs often have an Urdu voice available, so the tool usually works well there. Many iPhones and iPads do not offer an Urdu voice, even though they can display Urdu text perfectly well. On such a device, the tool may read Urdu with a voice from another language, or it may not play the passage properly at all. That is a limit of the device, not a fault in the text you typed.
The simplest check is the voice list itself. If you see a voice marked with “ur”, your device can speak Urdu with this tool. If no such voice appears, try another device or browser that does offer one. Do not judge the tool by the first device you try if that device has no Urdu voice.
Why There Is No MP3 Download
Speech here is generated live by your device, moment by moment, as it reads the text. No audio file is created on a server, and no MP3 or WAV file is produced for you to download. That is why the tool has no download button, and why adding one would not be honest: there is simply no file behind the live voice.
If you need a recording for your own use, use your device’s own screen or audio recorder while the tool is speaking. Keep the recording for personal use and respect the rights of any text you did not write yourself.
Tips for Clearer Speech
- Keep passages short. Under about 500 characters works best, because long passages may stop early on some browsers. Split a long text and play it in parts.
- Pick an Urdu voice first, before you change anything else. A non-Urdu voice will not become clearer just by slowing it down.
- Use a comfortable speed. Slower speeds help when you are learning new words; faster speeds are better for a quick check of a familiar passage.
- Check punctuation. Clear sentence breaks help the voice pause naturally, so avoid pasting one very long sentence without full stops.
- If playback stops or sounds wrong, try another voice from the list, reload the page, or try another browser on the same device.

Honest Limits
- There is no MP3 download, because speech is generated live by the device.
- You cannot choose a voice beyond what your device already offers. If no Urdu voice is listed, this tool cannot speak Urdu properly on that device.
- Browser support varies. Some browsers support the Web Speech API well, while others offer fewer voices or stop long passages early.
- Long passages may stop early. Keep text under about 500 characters and play longer pieces in sections.
- Your text is never uploaded or saved by this site. If you close the page, your text is gone unless you have copied it elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is it free?
Yes. Urdu Text to Speech is free to use in your browser, with no sign-up and no installation.
Why does Urdu sound wrong on my phone?
Most likely, your phone has no Urdu voice. The voice comes from your device, not from this website, so if the voice list shows no Urdu voice, the device will use another language’s voice or fail to read the text properly. Try a device or browser that lists an Urdu voice.
Can I download the audio as MP3?
No. Speech is generated live by your device and no audio file is created, so there is no MP3 download. You can record the live speech with your own device’s screen or audio recorder if you need a copy.
Which browsers work best?
Chrome on Android or Windows usually works best, because it tends to offer more voices, including Urdu voices on many devices. Safari on newer devices can also work, but voice availability still depends on the device. If one browser has no Urdu voice, try another.
How long can the text be?
There is no strict character limit in the box, but long passages may stop early on some browsers. For reliable playback, keep each passage under about 500 characters and press Play again for the next part.
Can I change the speed?
Yes. Use the speed slider, from 0.5x to 1.5x. The current speed is shown next to the slider, starting at 1.0x.
Is my text saved?
No. Your text is never uploaded or saved by this site. It is processed by your device’s own speech feature, so close the page only after you have copied anything you still need.
